Movie recommend II

Francois Truffaut’s The 400 Blows (1959) has an exceptional young cast and is one of the most touching stories I have seen about young troubles and adolescence inside Truffaut’s brilliant cinematic aspects.

Inspired by Truffaut’s own early life, it shows the life of a misunderstood young boy (named Antoine) growing up in Paris with bad habits and having to deal with fear he decides that rebellion is a better way of dealing with problems than to negotiate. My favorite aspect of the plot is how it thickens with Antoine’s every little mistake at the same time that we (as viewers) begin to care and feel for him…until Truffaut’s last trick leaves us inside an imaginary cloud by setting us up to decide Antoine’s fate. A beautiful work of art.

This movie makes our top list.

“I demand that a film express either the joy of making cinema or the agony of making cinema. I am not at all interested in anything in between.” - Francois Truffaut
